Chocolate Origins

I'd like to inform all the Southerners reading this blog that the Field Museum's traveling exhibit "Chocolate" opens tomorrow, February 11, at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta, Georgia. The show, which includes a reproduction of an ancient Maya rainforest and a look into conditions on contemporary cacao plantations, opened in 2002 at the Field Museum's base in Chicago and has made appearances in Los Angeles, New York, Honolulu, Houston, Philadelphia, Gainesville, San Diego, San Francisco, and Milwaukee. The next stop will be Albany.

In honor of chocolate's elevated status during Valentine's Day, I'm providing links to two articles on the esoteric theme of single-origin chocolate:

The New York Times, "Chocolate that Flashes Its Passport"

The Age, "Hot for Chocolate"
